Northern Michigan Small Farm Conference
http://smallfarmconference.com/
This Saturday I'll be speaking at the conference holding a session on, guess what... Raising the Urban Chicken. I'll also be speaking about the TC Coop Loop as well. Last year our friends over at ISLAND asked if I'd be interested in sharing my experiences and connected me with one of the conference organizers.
I'm very excited to be a part of a well known local conference and to tell you more about what the conference is all about... let me pull a quote from their site.
The Northern Michigan Small Farm Conference serves as a vehicle to promote and build a local vibrant agriculture community, to equip the small farm community with the tools to be successful, and to be a forum for the open exchange of ideas within the small farm community.
Couldn't have said that any better myself.
Another great thing about the session I'll be holding is that I'll be bringing along some of "the girls" as well. Nothing better than discussing chickens with actual chickens present! For all our sakes I hope their potty habits are at a minimum that day. All part of the experience though.
So, as winter presses on, so shall we.
Cheers!

Madison is holding its 2nd Bioneers conference this weekend, too. We'd 1st heard of Bioneers (and liked what we'd heard!) when we vacationed in TC, so were very happy when a conference was held here last year. Best of luck with your discussion/talk.
By the way, all 3 of our hens are laying....2 never stopped. The Buff Orpington, who did stop went through her molt, which is very understandable. The 2 Sex-link never did molt OR stop laying! I've been VERY pleased AND surprised.....but most of all, thankful. I do hope that not having a break from laying won't cause too much stress on them, though. I just make sure I give them little extras beside their 20% protein laying mash.
Once again, good luck!
Good to hear Mike! I have no doubt if those girls were molting severely that you could make them some very nice coats.
Our foster hen, Tango, is still laying every day. The other girls are content to be on break until further notice however.
My opinions from research and etc. is that if the breed keeps laying on their own then nothing you're doing will stress them further or cause harm. You're already on top of the extra goodies and protein rich diet. I'd say you have some happy girls!
I'd love to see a blog post about them sometime once the weather breaks for all of us. Take care friend and thanks for the comments!
